At the root of EMDR lies neurological process that are not clearly understood. In other words, we still don’t know why EMDR works because we don’t understand the full functionality of the brain processing. There’s much that goes on neurologically that science is still catching up on.
But what we do know for sure, is that study after study has shown that EMDR is an effective, reasonably quick* and efficient way of dealing with, addressing AND recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression and a whole host of other mental and interpersonal difficulties.
And a bit of food for thought - Scottish bacteriologist Alexander Fleming accidentally discovered penicillin after he came back from vacation and noticed a green mold forming in Petri dishes in his lab and was killing other bacteria. Initially he had no idea why penicillin worked. It took 8 years for the science to catch up. I have no doubt one day we’ll understand the exact science behind EMDR!!!
