EMDR as a train ride

EMDR treatment is like going on a train ride. Imagine yourself on a train. You get the window seat and I’ll (the EMDR therapist)will be sitting right there next to you the whole way. Unlike the original trauma, you are now no longer alone.
This train is first class and fully stocked with everything you’ll need to ride safely. EMDR teaches you how to safely maneuver through past trauma without re-experiencing it. This time you have internal and external resources to guide you through.
Our EMDR train, has a thick window. As we travel through, you’ll see images, have thoughts and sensations. If you feel like you’ve gone to the other side of this window, or if the scenery gets too close, we can ALWAYS stop the train. Because we are in first class, we have the brakes right there. We can put the brakes on when we need to. This time around YOU are in control.
And finally, sometimes we may pass through a dark tunnel. It may get uncomfortable or scary. Even in the middle of the tunnel we can put the brakes on if you want. But sometimes we can push through because sure enough, there’s always the light. But it will always be your choice if you want to stop.
